Taxonomy

Collection 1000436 (herbarium acc. no. MICH 10779) is Hebeloma discomorbidum. It is the holotype of heterotypic synonym Hebeloma obscurum A.H. Sm., V.S. Evenson & Mitchel (1983).

    Collection 1000436 was collected by A.H. Smith (88923) on 9th August 1978 in Pitkin County, Frying Pan River , Colorado, UNITED STATES (approx. 39.3713°N, 106.9264°W, altitude approximately 2500 m above sea level - Google maps). The ectomycorrhizal family Pinaceae (genera Picea and Pinus) was present.

    The surrounding habitat was described as coniferous, subalpine woodland, corresponding to the IUCN habitat We map from the collector's description of the habitat to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)'s definition using a standardised set of rules.     Lamellae: attachment adnate; maximum depth not recorded; number of complete lamellae 42; tears absent; white fimbriate edge absent.

    Stipe: 30–60 x 3–6 {median} x 3–6 {basal} mm; stipe Q 10.0; base cylindrical; floccosity pruinose at apex; rooting no; mycelial chords no.

    Context: texture firm; stipe interior not recorded; stipe flesh discolouring from base yes; slenderness measure 12.7; smell not recorded; taste mild.

    Basidia: 25.6–37.1 x 7.1–8.8 μm; ave. Q = 3.9; basidia spore nature not recorded.

    Cheilocystidia: main shape lageniform, ventricose; special features geniculate, median thickening; Cheilocystidia Ratios: A/M = 1.09; A/B = 0.61; B/M = 1.83.

    Pleurocystidia: no.
